First date, eh? Nervous? Worried you’ll overdo it? Worried you’ll under-do it? Fear not, help is at hand.

I have a lot of male friends. They all genuinely say the same things to me.

I don’t like it when a girl looks like she’s tried to hard.

My guess? It puts the poor fellas under pressure to do the same.

I want to be able to recognise my girl if I see her in the street the next day.

By this, they always mean that they want to see you, and not your makeup. Here’s where the girl in me reminds my male friends that what they really want to see is You… but a little effort.

If you’re having a daytime date, I suggest wearing starting with a natural daytime look (try my 5 minute quick fix look). It showcases your natural beauty then you can add a pop of colour on the lips to add some fun. It may say ‘don’t kiss me’ but it may lead to a second date, when you can up the ante and go for an evening date.

If it’s a first date in the evening, or a second date, here’s my top tip. Focus on eyes, rather than lips. Keep lips simple (and kissable). The makeup focus on the eyes draws your date in to focus on looking at you… and allows him to stare dreamily into your eyes *le sigh*. Seriously though, a focus on eyes will keep his attention on you.
