Remember this?
The paint roller style foundation from L’Oreal. What were they thinking? Well, it flopped.
MAC have come up with something just as odd and a little gimmicky if you ask me. The roller wheel eye liner.
What is it?
It’s a liquid eyeliner tat is on a small roller wheel rather than a brush tip. The idea is that you place this roller along your lash line and roll it along from inner to outer lash line and create a perfect feline flick which is as thin or thick as you want it.
Now, is it unfair to call it a gimmick?
Here are the swatches so you can see for yourself. You can achieve a decent straight line with a nice flick with this. That said, I swatched on my hand,a pretty straight surface. Trying on the eyelid was a whole new ballgame. The effect was pretty bad for my first attempt and I did not take any pictures that I’m willing to share.
These were obvs hand swatches. I did try on my eyes using the disposable roller liner wands and it’s a bit fiddly, even for a pro makeup artist. I am assured that once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy, but I’m not convinced that the average makeup wearer would agree.
I have seen MAC artists Insta feeds where they have created the finest, sharpest winged liner looks, but these can be created just as well with regular gel liner and a brush. Overall, for me, these were a no. They look cool but are a bit of a faff to use on a regular basis, especially at £16.50 RRP.
Have you guys tried it? How did you get on? Any pics you’d dare to share? Hit me up on the socials.
