L'Oreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss

The L’Oreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss is confusingly also available in a matte finish… so what exactly is a matte gloss?

To be fair, the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Mega Matte Gloss is more of a matte lip cream, but with a more intense pigment. While working at a L’Oreal counter earlier this year, I’ve had the opportunity to swatch most of the range and my feelings are mixed.

The shimmery glosses are sheer with a light tint. The texture is gummy, sticky and very glossy in a traditional sense. These are best worn just in the center of the lips to add a little dimension to the lips. If used all over it will become more of a sticky mess as it warms on the lips. No worse than other glosses, but like I said, it is better used sparingly in the centre of the lips.

Next in the range are the sheer glosses without shimmery flecks. These are more more pigmented lip glosses and are slightly thicker in texture and less sticky. These can be worn all over the lips, and are best worn with a lip liner, either colour-matched or clear wax lip liner to prevent colour-bleed.

The matte shades are much creamier in texture, like the matte lip creams available from NYX, Collection, Revlon and many other brands. The finish is creamy matte with deeply pigmented colour. I have darker pigmentation on my top lip but this lip cream covers it evenly.

My shade is 405 The Bigger The Better, which is a bright fluoro-pink tone. It’s very much a shade for the brave… or the melanin-rich. It looks amazing on brown skin and is a bold, fun summer shade. That said, I have been wearing it over the winter months as tanned or brown skin can carry off stronger, brighter colours regardless of the lack of sunshine.

The applicator is not your typical doe-foot applicator. It’s  bent in the middle to give a better angle for more precise application. I quite like it. It’s a slightly better version of the droplet-shaped applicator you get in the Maybelline 10H Stain Gloss.

So the big question, will I be buying more shades? And will I repurchase this shade once finished? I love the formula and the shade, but it does bleed a bit too much, even when I use a waxy clear liner. I will be buying a couple pf the more nude shades, as any colour-bleed will be much less noticeable. I won’t be repurchasing this shade though.  As much as I love it, the colour-bleed makes it look messy after eating and drinking even a little. The shade is quite similar to my Smashbox lipstick in Electric Pink, and that gives a similar creamy matte look, without colour-bleed.
