Lip Venom was the very first lip plumper on the market, creating the lip plumping category for the beauty industry. The tingly gloss uses essential oils to enhance lips’ natural color and shape by increasing circulation. The result: fuller bee stung lips. Source: Du Wop
I’ve had this knocking around my dressing table for a few weeks now but haven’t had the chance to test it. So I grabbed it on my way out to catch my 5am train this morning.
Upon opening the protective tube, I found a teeny tiny lip gloss tube with a handy little brush applicator. The directions for use state that “a sensation of heat and tingling is normal” so I mentally prepared myself for a bit of a bee sting feeling.
The label mentions a “spicy” flavour. This is “spicy” flavour is a strong cinnamon and nutmeg kick. It may be too strong for some but hey, I’m of the Asian persuasion, I can take hot hot curry heat (unless it’s my aunt’s jalfrezi, which burns like a mini-volcano on your tongue and lips…) #realbadass.
The feeling is more than a tingling sensation, it’s more of a burning sensation. It’s bearable (here’s where I’m thankful to my aunt that her jalfrezi has built up my tolerance) and not too unpleasant but after about 15 minutes, I’m over it and can’t wait for the burning to fade…
… 45 minutes later and the burning is finally more of a tingling…
…an hour later, still tingling a little…
… 80 minutes later the burning/ tingling sensation has faded completely.
My lips feel plumper to touch but do they look plumper?

My lips do look fuller and this is enhanced by the glossy sheen. In terms of size, wouldn’t say they’re quite bee-stung, but there is a clear difference. The camera gives a flatter view than in person, as the bottom lip is definitely plumper and fuller. Not much change to the top lip though.
I popped on some lippy, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain and started my day.
9am: Still looking full
11am: Back to normal
+ lips do look fuller, especially the bottom lip
+ the gloss is very hydrating
– the sting lasts for a long time
– scent is overpowering at first
Yay or nay
Rating out of 3.5/5
I give it only a 3.5, as it did give me fuller lips but it didn’t have the WOW! factor I was expecting. The effect wore off very quickly too.
Having said that, I do have full-ish lips as it is, so maybe it would work better on someone with thinner, less full lips. I will try it out on my sis and will report back soon.
If you’ve tried it and agree/ disagree, let me know in comments box below! [Please also note whether you have thin/ average/ full lips to start with for comparison purposes.]
