Having worn dewy finish foundation for the past 2 years, I thought it might be fun to dabble in mattes again. I’ve always loved Bourjois Healthy Mix and so it’s matte sister, Bourjois Air Mat would be the natural choice to try matte again.

The blurb: Bourjois’ Air Mat foundation has been specially developed to give skin a smooth, matte finish that lasts for up to 24 hours. Its non drying, lightweight formula lets skin breathe throughout the day and provides high coverage for a flawless finish.
Enriched with mattifying micronized powders, it elimates shine with no mask effect for an undetectable result.

The good
Undertone: This is one of the few drugstore foundations from a mainstream brand with a decent yellow undertone in its golden shades. Most drugstore brands idea of ‘golden’ is still very pink toned. This actually fits nicely with South Asian skintones.

Coverage: The Air Mat foundation gives nice even coverage that starts at medium coverage and can be built up to full cover in areas that need it. If applying with a sponge, I’d suggest dampening with setting spray to ensure that you’re not too heavy handed. A little does go a long way with the right application.

Price: For a tenner it’s good value. Add to that the various deals always running at Boots and Superdrug and you’ll be able to stock up and save.

Packaging: the squeeze tube application keeps it hygienic and allows you to get every drop out. The pump bottles always have a little wastage at the bottom that you can never quite reach.

The bad
Dry: On a dry skin day, it can highlight dry patches. That can be overcome by exfoliating beforehand.

Texture: It is a thicker formula than I’ve been used to of late, and is certainly thicker than other Bourjois foundations. You can definitely feel it on your skin until you’ve really buffed it in and worked it right into the skin.

The verdict
It’s a nice little foundation with good medium coverage and surprisingly the right undertone for my skin. For me, it’s a definite yes for days when I want heavier coverage. If I want to keep a dewy finish I can always add a drop of face serum to it.
