MAC’s Candy Yum Yum shade was launched earlier and is the most vibrant pink you’ll have worn on your lips. Given that I’m a lover of Fuchsia, neon and matte finishes, it’s a mystery as to why I didn’t jump on it like a cat in heat as MAC have embodied all three elements in one shade.

I bought it just recently and can’t get enough of it. For those that have yet to try it, here is an initial swatch.

Its uber-matte finish is unforgiving on dry lips so be sure to prep and prime lips well. My go-to lip primer is Dr Lipp Nipple Balm For Lips but the Mary Kay lip conditioner is fab as a lip primer too.

Here it is on my (well-hydrated) lips.

The formula is highly pigmented and really long-lasting. Apply in layers, blotting in between will also massively increase wear time.

As well as longevity and high pigment, I am impressed by the creamy consistency of Candy Yum Yum. It’s more blendable than other matte lipsticks from MAC, such as Ruby Woo. The creamy texture makes it really great to use in ombre lip looks.

Candy Yum Yum has now become a make-up bag staple for me. Now it’s in my personal make-up bag, it’s not coming out. I’ll have to buy another one for my kit.

What are your thoughts on shocking pink in general? How far would you go with pink lipstick? Soft wash of colour or all out neon pink?
