Deepika and Sonakshi are stunning Bollywood beauties, no doubt. What I love is that they rock the bronzed goddess look all year round, and embrace their natural skin tone. This is against the backdrop of the many skin lightening creams and potions that are thrown at you by the Indian/ Pakistani/ Bengali fashion and beauty press.

I love the skin I’m in and want my South-Asian sisters to do so too.

Here’s a step-by-step for how to recreate the all-year bronzed look.

  1. Start with clean, moisturised skin.
  2. Take a cream contour product (click here for how-to select the right contour shade) and apply to temples, side of nose, and the hollows of the cheeks.
  3. Apply a cream highlighter to centre of forehead, bridge of nose, apples of the cheeks and chin.
  4. Take a light coverage foundation, like Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel, and apply to skin, blending in the contour and highlight areas as you go.
  5. Apply a neutral cream eye shadow, like MAC paint pot in Bare Study or Painterly, as an eye base.
  6. Apply a medium brown matte shadow all over the eye lid (I reach for my trusty Viseart Neutrals 01 palette).
  7. Using a dark brown eye pencil, draw a steady thick winged line along each lid. Blend and soften the line using a smudge brush or a cotton bud.
  8. Take the brown eye pencil and line the lower lids on the outer third only. Smudge lightly to soften the line.
  9. Highlight the brow bone using a light beige or flesh tone shadow (again, I reach for Viseart Neutrals 01 palette).
  10. Curl lashes and add a coat of mascara.
  11. Add a brown-toned blusher just above your contour.
  12. Add a soft pink blush to the apples of the cheeks.
  13. Apply a neutral lip colour and dab a small amount of gloss in the centre of the lips, and you’re done.

This looks beautiful on Asian skin tones in winter as much as summer, that’s the bonus of having a darker skin tone. Embrace your skin tone and rock it, ladies!
