Living in the UK we don’t get a lot of sunshine or even daylight in the winter. That poses a problem for blog photography as I am working during the week so only have evenings and weekends to create the images I use on the blog.

Since the end of 2016,  I have been working on my portrait photography, mostly so that I can photograph my own portfolio shoots. The lighting softboxes also come in handy for nighttime blog photography. I’ve tried using my portable mini studio for night blog photography but never got the lighting right. Now I’m using my larger softboxes, I can control the lighting and create exactly the right conditions.

You don’t actually need a fancy setup. I just use a single softbox, my coffee table, a white roll of paper, and a few flat lay accessories, like my favourite beauty books…

That’s it, nothing fancy. I can control the lighting to get very different effects. The two images below are from the same setup but slightly different distance from the light, different camera exposure and angles. Two very different tones to the same image set.

I’m curious as to how other bloggers conduct their blog photography sessions. If you’re a blogger, I’d love to know. Hit me up on the socials.
