Throughout the latter part of 2016 I’ve been envying the blog images of the beauty blogger elite. I have been wanting to up my blog photography game but not sure in which direction to take it in. Late 2016 blogs saw just about everybody doing flat-lays on marble, with succulents, rose gold accessories, and those New Look lightboxes. I read a recent blog with tips on upping your photography game citing these very same tropes.

I embarked on a little experiment. I switched my usual blank canvas for marble for a little blog photography session. Here’s how it turned out.

Beautiful images, with a uniform aesthetic. A perfect fit for any beauty blog.

But that’s just it. It could be any beauty blog. There’s nothing EyeSpyBeauty about it. That just doesn’t sit right with me. I want to up my game but keep my blog feel uniquely me. You’ll still be seeing the images on the blog over the next few months, as I don’t want to re-shoot them all, but going forward, I’m going to try a new way to refresh my blog, without losing the ‘me’ factor.

As a result of this experiment, I have decided to keep my own style, a mixture of using bright colours and different textures. The way for me to up my game is to explore my camera settings and lighting styles to get the best results that are more me than everyone else.
